HELENA, Mont. -- Commissioner of Securities and Insurance Monica J. Lindeen today announced plans for the public hearing on the proposed acquisition of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana by Chicago-based Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC).
The public hearing will start at 9:00 a.m. on February 12, 2013, in the Lewis and Clark County Courthouse, 228 Broadway, District Court #3 – Room 202, in Helena, Mont.
At the hearing, representatives from BCBS and HCSC will make their case that the proposed acquisition is in the public's interest and in compliance with state law. Both the Commissioner and the Attorney General will have an opportunity to call expert witnesses to evaluate the proposal.
Lindeen and Attorney General Steve Bullock jointly appointed former Montana Supreme Court Justice W. William Leaphart to serve as hearing examiner. After the hearing, the examiner will prepare a report on the application and it's compliance with state laws for the Attorney General and the Commissioner to consider. Both officials must approve the application before BCBS can be acquired by HCSC.
The public is encouraged to submit comments in person at the hearing or in writing. Written comment should be sent to:
